The Old Barn for Laura & James’ London Themed Wedding
Laura & James had fallen in love with The South Causey Inn and The Old Barn from the first time they visited. They got engaged in London and the London bus in the grounds was a big red omen that South Causey Inn and The Old Barn was the perfect place for their London themed wedding.
We’d been to The South Causey Inn throughout the years. The venue has slowly developed into a major wedding venue with loads of options. All of the rooms are amazing and The Old Barn is an enclosed venue in its own right.
The morning of Laura and James’s wedding was chilly for May, but the sun was trying to get out as I was travelling on my way to the beautiful South Causey Inn. We’d photographed at the Old Barn a few times in the past. We love this place. The staff are always outstanding. When we arrived the guests were all flying around the hotel, in and out of the cottage rooms, getting sorted for the big event.
Lisa was on a mission to find her beautiful bride. Laura opened the cottage door still in her pyjamas with her rollers in. Bridesmaids were whizzing about all over the place. One was seeing to the dog, one was getting the dresses sorted, one was getting the champagne – I didn’t know where to start. Laura’s sister was getting all the accessories, bags, jewellery, and flowers together, so everybody knew where they were. The laughter and giggles were already in the air, but never had I seen so many getting ready in one room!
Champayne at the Old Forge Cottage
I see Laura’s wedding shoes; I was impressed they were so pretty and went amazingly with her dress.
Millie, James’ daughter, was having a great time. She was dancing about and making sure everybody knew she was going to be a flower girl. She couldn’t wait to put her little dress on and become a princess. If Laura wasn’t careful, Emma was going to steal the show. Everyone stopped to see her pretending to be a ballerina in the mirror. Lisa was so glad she caught her.
The bridesmaids opened a bottle of champagne while Laura began to get her hair done. All her bridesmaids gathered round to watch the transformation. Laura’s sister tied up the back of her dress as the other girls were putting the final touches to themselves to make sure everyone looked amazing.
There was a knock on the door as two of the lads arrived with the couples two beautiful dogs. Everyone made a fuss of them. The lads escorted our Laura over to the Old Barn.
The Old Stables
James and his groomsmen were also all getting ready together in a separate cottage at the South Causey Inn. James was getting ready with nervous efficiency. It was almost as if the ceremony of putting his uniform on was helping him focus. His groomsmen, meanwhile, we’re doing a great job keeping his spirits up by joking about. The South Causey’s cottages are spacious but with 6 lads, a videographer & a photographer there wasn’t room to swing a cat. So, as soon a everyone was ready, we headed to the Old Barn.
The Old Barn
As I shepherded the lads to the Old Barn the weather was starting to worry me. Rain clouds were gathering. Would it hold off?
James’ groomsmen seemed a tight knit group. Everyone a joker! I couldn’t work out if they were regular pub mates or if they had bonded on the stag do. There was some great banter flying back and forth.
And the Heavens Opened
During a beautiful service, the heavens had opened. Laura & James had only 2 requests. They wanted some photos near the red London bus and a large group photo on the steps. We took a punt that it was only a spring shower and thought it best to head to the bus first rather than drag the whole wedding out in the rain. James also made a quick change out of his uniform. Keeping them nice and dry under brollies the rain began to ease just as we finished and started to head back to the Old Barn.
Fun Outside The Old Barn
After a wonderful wedding breakfast the weather seemed to settle a little and we had loads of time to have fun with all of Laura & James’ guests. When you have a couple that are down to earth and willing to have a laugh with you, it really isn’t work.
Lisa & I normally stay until the first dance at an all day wedding. As night fell and I left Lisa, who was having too much fun, stayed for a while longer. It was a nice surprise to find she had pulled off this wonderful night shot, without a tripod and no off camera flash. Maybe I should leave her to it more often.
Laura & James had a great day. We were also lucky to see them again in 2020 when we had the honour of photographing their beautiful newborn Ella-Mae. We wish them all the best and can’t wait to see them again.
