The bride & groom under trees at Carlisle Park in Morpeth, Northumberland

In 2018, Morpeth Registry Office was becoming Halo Photography’s second home. This was to be our meeting point for Claire & David’s laid back wedding day and then on to Barluga. We hadn’t photographed a wedding in Barluga but I’d been for meals so knew that the staff were great and we were looking forward to their big day.

Claire & David are the embodiment of laid back. Their priority was to be as comfortable and relaxed as possible on their wedding day. They didn’t want their photos to take all day but wanted them to last a lifetime. Our brief was to do what we do in only 2 hours and we made the most of every minute.

Morpeth Registry Office

We’ve been to Morpeth Town Hall so many times now, Lisa & I often feel like regular street performers. Before a wedding at Morpeth Registry Office, you treat the street as your studio. It’s street photography at its most fun. If you’re confident enough you can get away with anything while dodging baby buggies and trying not to get run over, most of the time.

You also have to get to know the family very quickly. If you’re meeting the Bride & Groom at the Registry Office you’re straight in at the deep end, meeting and greeting so you get to know who everyone is. You already know who your priories are, just not what they look like. Claire & David’s family were warm & welcoming. There seemed very little stress and from the start everyone was looking to be having a great time.

David and Claire were both escorted expertly by their nephews. Both young men did a great job and were the extent of the wedding party, making life a lot easier for us. David had a nervous wait for Claire inside Morpeth Registry Office, not that she was late. A whisper echoed around the ballroom that Claire had arrived and her friends made a mad dash to the window for a sneak peek. Claire looked stunning in her dress and David cracked the moment he saw her.

Off to Carlisle Park in Morpeth

We love the registrars at Morpeth Registry Office. I’m not sure if it’s because, as wedding photographers, we don’t get in their way or roll around the floor causing distractions but they always seem to bend over backwards for us. After sweet-talking the registrars to let us back in the ballroom for family photos, and some of Claire & David, in front of the ballroom’s fireplace we managed a quick group shot of everyone on the staircase. Then, before heading to Carlisle Park, Claire loved the idea of some shots using the clock tower.

As all of the guests crossed Bridge Street to head to Barluga. Lisa nipped to the shop to get Claire & David a drink before all jumping in their snazzy Landrover for a trip to the Flower Park in Morpeth. It was sunny and we had blue skies. It’s not often we get a bride & groom all to ourselves in a town centre wedding but we had all of Carlise Park to ourselves. We made the most of it and got loads taken in the little time we had.

Barluga in Morpeth

Our luxurious ride dropped us off outside Sanderson Arcade and we helped Claire & David through the shoppers to Barluga. We had the whole first floor devoted to the wedding with a drinks reception at the bar and the wedding breakfast to be held in their adjoining function room.

Barluga’s function room was dressed beautifully and the staff were really helpful. We spent a little time capturing the atmosphere and pinching small groups and of course some cake images. Claire & David only wanted us to stay until the speeches which were short but perfectly formed. We can’t believe how much we achieved in the time we had and hope this wonderful couple enjoy these memories for years to come.
